Nelson Mandela is a concrete square in the heart of Madrid. Among the cobblestone streets of Lavapiés, time seams to stop in this square. Urban development of my city becomes prison architecture. Mandela looks like a prison yard, few people spend their days here and survive to control.
These photographs are talking about a mental state, not only about the urban physical qualities of the space. The depersonalisation is an indispensable element of confinement. Limits and vulnerability are the protagonists here, in its search, we also appreciate the repetition.
The sky does not exist in Cabestro, frames are almost always taken from the top, like in panoptic architecture: a place where you are secretly being monitored. The geometry of space, marked by the shadows, lines, angles establish a dialectic between the inert and the organic; nature is always presented here as an idea of something that happened.
A cabestro is an animal that guides wild bulls. The word is also used for the rope in which these animals are tethered and, colloquially, for a submissive person. The old square was popularly known as Cabestreros, a reference to the trade of rope making.

She studied Fine Arts at the University of Granada. Masters Degree in Design at the Complutense University of Madrid and Masters Degree in Photography at Blank Paper School. She also studied “The Photographer as a Storyteller” course at The International Center of Photography in New York.
She has exhibited at Cuarto de Invitados Gallery in Madrid and had published Cabestro on the occasion of the exhibition at the Kursala Gallery at the University of Cádiz, Spain.
